Tips for Looking Like a Model

Here are the best tips I have learned from my career as a professional model that will help you look like a model every day!

1.) The Model Skin Care Routine

Model Skin Care Routine

Both male and female models must take care of their skin year-round. Not only is it important to have healthy skin, but it must like great to be in front of the camera or on the runway.

Especially due to the excess amount of makeup that models have to wear for photoshoots, videos, and runway performances, it is crucial that models take great care of their skin. Here are a few model skin care tips:

Wash Your Face Every Morning and Night

It might take about 5 extra minutes each time, but getting in the habit of washing your face every morning and night can drastically improve your skin quality. Especially for women who wear make-up often, this tip can make a dramatic difference in how clear your skin is, and whether or not you look tired and drained.

Washing your skin gently with a clean hand towel rids your face of dirt, perspiration, or anything else it comes in contact with you.

Choose a Proper Cleanser

When you are trying to improve your skin to look like a model, choosing the correct products to clean your face is just as important as how often, and how you do it.

Choosing the right cleanser can help you with everything from blackhead problems to having more youthful-looking skin.

There are a ton of different products that can act as a facial cleanser, but the best products I have used are the ones from La Roche-Posay. Here is a great product you can add to your skin care routine to look like a model:

You can also checkout Skinfood products, which is another great brand for skincare products.

Keep Your Skin Hydrated

Hydrated skin is important for looking like a model because hydrated skin looks healthy and has a distinct glow.

To keep your skin looking hydrated like a models, you need to actually be hydrated (drink more water), and you need to treat your skin with hydrating products.

You can rely on an aesthetic clinic in Dubai, New York, London, or wherever you are if you want top-notch care, or you can simply use a high-quality facial moisturizer every day on your own.

Again, like to use La Roche-Posay products. My favorite is La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer:

Another option is to make homemade facial masks that you can specially formulate for your type of skin!

Teeth Care

A model skincare routine is important for looking like a model, but you also need to take proper care of your teeth as well!

However, I don’t suggest you use the harsh at-home teeth whitening procedure. You simply want to use natural products that will make your teeth whiter and brighter, but also healthier and stronger.

Simple steps include brushing after each meal, using a good toothpaste, and using the right toothbrush for your type of teeth.

For toothpaste, I like Hello Oral Care Activated Charcoal Teeth Whitening Toothpaste:

For a toothbrush, I use EveCo Bamboo Organic Wood Toothbrush with Charcoal Bristles because it is sensitive, and recyclable so it’s better for the environment:

2.) How to Do Makeup Like a Model

How to Do Makeup Like a Model

Let’s start from the “top” and discuss “model-like” makeup.

First of all, real models do not wear too much make-up on daily basis! Remember that rule.

I have been in the model business for over ten years, and people often ask: “You are a model, shouldn’t you wear more make up?”.

When you hear something like this, just slap this person on the face (metaphorically, please don’t slap anybody on the face).

This is one of the biggest myths about models.

The majority of real models do not wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis. This myth came from Insta-models or non-professional models (which don’t have a contract with a model agent or agency).

There are a couple of reasons why professional models rarely wear makeup. The main reason is that our bodies and skin is tired from “tons” of super-lasting makeup use from our work, and we can’t handle to wear any makeup on non-working days because:

  • We just want to let our skin breathe.
  • Professional make-up is harmful to your skin and you don’t want to use extra make-up during non-working days.

Another big reason why models wear light, “natural”, or no makeup at all on non-working days, is because it is in our contracts. Most model contracts include a statement that the model must always look fresh and “casting-able” because the model business is unpredictable, and you never know when casting will be.

If you want to succeed in this business, you must always be ready for casting.

For those who didn’t know, models are not allowed anything over “natural-like” make up during castings.

The best choice for model-like makeup will be perfect skin tone, a tiny bit of bronzer, light blush, accented eyebrows, and tinted lips.

However, on special occasions, models do their make up as much as they want, but in fact, you will rarely see a model walking down the street during the day with full makeup.

3.) How to Get Supermodel Hair

How to Get Supermodel Hair

To get supermodel hair, everything is the same as in the previous section.

A common model contract usually includes a statement that the model must always have clean and healthy-looking hair, in case of an unexpected casting call.

In other words- yes, for special occasions, models will have their hair done.

However, if you will meet a model during her non-working regular day, she will probably just have her hair naturally or slightly styled.

However, another reason for this is the fact that our hair “suffers” from a lot of manipulations, incredible amounts of styling products, heat, physical damage, and so on during work. So, having a day off is always a chance for us to let our hair rest and recover a little.

Even washing off all the styling products from your hair is painful and might take hours.!

Which hairstyle will you want on your day off after all of that? Sometimes, models use their days off just to recover their skin and hair and spend time at home with different treatments.

If you want to look like a real model, make sure your hair is as healthy as possible and give them an accurate and natural look!

For example soft waves, a classic bun, a medium-height or low ponytail, or easy breading.

The best option is just to let your hair show its true natural self and let them be as they are by styling them with only heat-free organic products.

Two of my favorite products for my hair are argan oil and castor oil hair products.

4.) How to Dress Like a Model

How to Dress Like a Model

“Why don’t you dress like a model?”

I always answer this question “But how do you think models dress like?” Somehow, most people think that models dress on the street as they do for the runway or photoshoots. It is a huge myth that models walk down the street fully covered in brand clothing, with a crown on our head and always on heels!

It doesn’t even sound healthy! I mean, we work on enormously high heels for hours, daily. Plus, it is a very active job where you rarely can sit down and rest. Remember, runways work as a loop, and we are all walking one after another non-stop for hours, and we always have to run behind the scene and switch our outfits in a short time period.

For photo and video shoots, you stand on heels in uncomfortable and physically difficult positions for hours. Do you think a model will even look at heels their my day off?

The same rule applies to clothing.

First of all, your contract will probably say that you always must look “casting-able,” and casting clothes are always plain and supposed to show your body shape.

The second reason is that once again, you won’t wear uncomfortable clothes on your rest day because your body is tired from all these uncomfortable outfits you always wear for the job, as well as you no longer care about wearing brand clothes on a daily basis because you see them every day for work.

Also, you will rarely meet a model who wears something with a big brand logo on it, simply because nobody payed you to wear and represent their logo during your day off, so why should you do work for these brands and promote them?

When you are a professional model you see this industry a bit differently, and you are less likely to “fall for something” only because it is trendy.

5.) How to Get the Body of a Model

If you want to get a body like a model, you are going to need to exercise often, eat smart, and stay dedicated day after day. You certainly don’t need to starve yourself or avoid carbohydrates like the plague, but you need to have an intelligent goal of achieving a great body.

You also don’t have to accomplish this goal in a day, a week, or even a month. However, you do have to maintain this goal and work on it day after day.

There are tons of activities you can do to tone your body and look like a model! If you are not very familiar with exercising, you can try my 15-day workout challenge:

For your diet, try to avoid processed foods, added sugars, and other calories that are not nutrient-dense. This is a simple explanation, but it’s effective enough.

If you struggle with choosing a healthy diet, check out my article on what you should eat.

6.) How to Act and Talk Like a Model

It isn’t enough to just look like a model, for a complete look, you must act appropriately. Real professional models act appropriately in public, and they are ethical and know good manners.

You won’t meet a big model who talks bad about people, brands, acts judgmentally, is close-minded or is simply rude. The model industry targets people and you have to be loved and accepted by the public if you want a good career.

Also, you won’t meet a big model who will talk bad about other people and judge them by their appearance. Models must be self-confident and cannot go as low as talking bad about somebody else’s look and physical appearance.

A real model cannot be arrogant or act as if she is higher than other people. Models should be kind and inspire others to do good things.

Also, models should be intelligent!

Yes! Intelligent!

You will not be a big professional model if you don’t work on your intelligence. I am not saying that all models must have a medical diploma from an Ivy League university (which wouldn’t be a minus as well), but knowing elementary things like school programs, knowing how to talk to people, and having hobbies will never hurt you.

Real models don’t think that looks are everything, and they work on their brains as well.

People are tired of “empty brained dolls” and they seek models who have intelligence. I mean, intelligence does change the way your face looks!

You have “smarter” eyes and facial structure. Furthermore, people and agencies will like you more overall because you are a good example and representation of brands and companies.

Don’t be just a beautiful face, be a strong, intelligent, and independent model!
